The group agreed to continue its review of TEI TRC Core W02, Summary of status: Problems assigned to the TEI TRC Core Subcommittee ( HTML version); and to discuss CMSMcQ's document, TEI TRC Core W04, Proposal for an anonymous block element( HTML version).
Nobody, not even the minute-taker, could discern the meaning of the tables relating to decision criteria for element class membership. There will be no attempt to make them more comprehensible.
CMSMcQ's proposal was welcomed. The "Open questions" were resolved as follows:
What to call it?: <ab> (anonymous block), both because of its terseness, and because, unlike <bl> or <bk>, its meaning may not easily be mistaken as book, blue, black, blank, or whatever.
Define in TEI.analysis or in core?: TEI.analysis. The construct's similarity to <seg>, and the difficulty of incorporating both it and <seg> into the core, suggest that its home should be in TEI.analysis. EM pointed out that many users would be likely to want only <ab> and <seg> from TEI.analysis: the tag set's other baggage could be confusing, particularly to those using a syntax-directed editor for data entry. It was agreed that the Guidelines should give instructions on how to use just these two elements from TEI.analysis.
%chunk or %inter?: %chunk. The group felt that what was required was an element with the characteristics of <p>, but without the semantic baggage. This leaves open the possible requirement for a self-nesting anonymous block element which can be used at all levels.
The group agreed to revisit the proposal after canvassing public opinion on a revised version.
ACTION: LB: Rework proposal to remove "Open questions" section and reflect the group's decisions; post in public place, and announce availability on TEI-L.
STATUS: Open
<s> cannot be a child of <div>; the <div> must contain at least one <p>, <l> or (following decision of section 1 above) <ab>, which can be parent to the <s>s. Indeed, <ab> may be used to perform the function for which Harry wanted to use <s>: the marking of verses in psalms.

The group agreed with the suggestion in document W02 ( HTML version) that <note> should be used in situations where the existing "desc" attribute was judged insufficient for the description of a <certainty> element: Syd's request should be turned down. Again per W02( HTML version) , a note on the handling of errata lists should be included in the next revision of the Guidelines.
