(I claim no responsibility or glory: these have been worked out entirely by the cataloguers at the Bodleian in collaboration with Marianne.) At some point it would be nice to determine the correspondence (if any) between these and the tags to be defined in this group. Any comments anyone has on the appropriateness or otherwise of these gratefully received. Lou Burnard 041 * $a LANGUAGES: Used for computer files which are entirely textual. This will indicate which language the text is in, and whether it is a translation. 1** *0 $a MAIN ENTRY HEADING: The main entry heading as described in AACR2 1988 Rev. Chapter 21. 240 10 $a UNIFORM TITLE: The particular title by which a work is to be identified for cataloguing purposes, when the work has appeared under varying titles. Useful for translations, etc. 245 ** $a TITLE STATEMENT: The title proper of the text, $b together with any additional title information $h the general material description (GMD), in this case always: [computer file] / $c Statements of responsibility, ie. the author and the compiler/s of the machine-readable text itself. 250 $a EDITION STATEMENT: The edition of the computer file itself, when and if this information is available. 256 $a FILE CHARACTERISTICS: OCLC MARC CF Format describes this field as being used to "record characteristics pertaining to computer file material, e.g., the number of data files and logical records...". In this case, always: Computer data (No. of files : ca. extent of file in Kb.), and variations. 260 0 $c IMPRINT: The file is treated like a MS. in AACR2 1988 Rev. 4.3 - 4.4, and therefore only the (approximate) date of the creation of the file is given. 351 $a ORGANISATION AND ARRANGEMENT: Organisation of the file, if relevant. 500 $a GENERAL NOTES: Any general notes on the file, including indication of language, e.g. 'In English', and the source of the title proper (the title given in field 245), e.g. whether given by the depositor, whether it is part of the text itself, or whether it has been supplied from some other source, e.g. hard copy edition, or cataloguer. 503 $a BIBLIOGRAPHIC HISTORY NOTE: A relationship between the work 'in hand' and its machine-readable predecessors, e.g. revisions of texts. 505 * $a FORMATTED CONTENTS NOTE: The contents or partial contents of a computer file, when applicable (e.g. for corpora). 506 RESTRICTIONS ON ACCESS NOTE: Authority terms supplied from OTA. 510 $a CITATION/REFERENCE NOTE: Bibliographic reference in brief form e.g. if from CURL, or BL's Short Title Catalogue, etc. 516 $a TYPE OF FILE OR DATA NOTE: Always: Text 520 $a SUMMARY, ABSTRACT, ANNOTATION, SCOPE, ETC. NOTE: Useful for expressing the purpose of a statistical survey, etc, but not relevant here. This field would be used e.g. for a text resulting from a survey of spoken English, Cymraeg, etc. 536 $a FUNDING INFORMATION NOTE: Used to record funding information, when a study results from a funded project. 537 $a SOURCE OF DATA NOTE: This field is used to input the bibliographic details of the item which has been transcribed or used as the basis of the electronic text.
