M. Sperberg-McQueen" Attached is the draft agenda for the meeting. It does not include a specific acknowledgment of the presence of the Working Group Heads, but they are expected to occupy us on Friday afternoon and all day Saturday. In addition, I am including some documentation relevant for agenda item 3 on overall project management which Nancy drafted and which I have revised some. It was prepared in response to discussions that Susan, Nancy, Antonio, and I have had about the scope of the project activities, and it reflects our concern about all the things that have to be done and how we should deploy our resources to make sure they get accomplished. It is divided into two sections: (1) Primary Editor Responsibilities, and (2) Other Project Management Requirements. The boundaries between these two sections are not entirely clear and require discussion. Indeed, the lists themselves may be incomplete, so everyone is encouraged to review them and suggest additions and modifications. However, the point to be made is that we are not sure that the Editors can do it all, even with secretarial and research assistant support. A number of items in (2) would seem to require more sophistication and judgment than the latter could provide, even as they seem to demand more time than the Editors have available. A question to be considered, therefore, is whether there is a need for a project manager, and, if so, how we go about acquiring one. At the least, a discussion of these issues will help us establish priorities for the many demanding tasks that need to get done. As always, additions and modifications to the agenda itself are solicited. I am looking forward to our meeting with anticipation and not a little trepidation.
