Preparing TEI Document Lists Wendy Plotkin TEI EDA34 05 October 1993 Draft October 5, 1993 (13:52:05) Chapter 1 TEI DOCUMENT LISTS There are currently six TEI document lists, which vary according to the audience to whom the documents may be distributed and whether the documents are current. The audience is like a pyramid: at the top is the TEI editorial staff, and then it widens to include Steering Commit- tee, TEI participants (e.g. work group heads/members, affiliated projects, advisory board) and the general public (all those who read TEI-L and others). The six document lists are: TEI A0: Current Documents: All current documents available to TEI par- ticipants, Steering Committee, and Editors only. TEI A2: Complete Documents: All documents available to TEI partici- pants, Steering Committee, and Editors only. TEI A2a: Complete Documents (Confidential): All documents available to Steering Committee and Editors only. TEI A2b: Complete Documents (Confidential): All documents available to Editors only. TEI A4: Current Public Documents: All current documents available to public. TEI A5: Public Documents: All documents available to public. Chapter 2 TYPES OF DOCUMENTS AVAILABLE TO AUDIENCES The designation of who is eligible to obtain a document is made by the editors and/or the authors. The following list describes the types of documents that are available to the Editors, Steering Committee, TEI participants and the public. Editors: Travel Expense documents; P2 timetable estimates; confidential correspondence Steering Committee/Editors: Steering Committee agendae, minutes, and most other documents TEI Participants: Minutes of meetings and working papers which working committee and work group heads would prefer to keep accessible only to TEI participants Public: All documents that are announced on TEI-L, and that are not included in previous three groupings above. Chapter 3 DESIGNATING AUDIENCE IN DOCS LIST The designation for the appropriate audience for any given TEI document is in the DOCS list (DOCS WATFILE on TEIDAT) in the "Public" field. The values in this field include: Y: Yes (available to the Public) N: No (available to TEI participants, Steering Committee, and Editors only) S: Steering Committee (available to Steering Committee and Editors only) C: Editors (Confidential, available to Editors only) Chapter 4 PRODUCING THE VARIOUS DOCUMENT LISTS There are two steps in producing the document list: * selecting the appropriate documents from DOCS WATFILE, and creating a script file to be imbedded in a driver file (e.g.TEIA0 Script; TEIA5 Script) * printing out the final Document List using one of the existing driv- er files on TEISCOM (e.g. TEIA0Dri Script, TEIA5Dri Script) using the "Makedoc Script97" or "Makedoc Memo" or "Makedoc Listps" com- mands. These are described in more detail below. 4.1 Selecting the appropriate documents in DOCS WATFILE. Watfile programs have been created to select the appropriate docu- ments for each audience and create a script file to be imbedded in the driver file. The following are the commands you give to obtain the Script file with the appropriate documents once you have accessed the Docs file with the "Watfile Docs" command. TEI A0: Current Documents (for TEI Participants) Perform TEIA0 TEI A2: Complete Documents (for TEI Participants) Perform TEIA2 TEI A2a: Complete Documents (for the Steering Committee and Editors) Perform TEIA2a TEI A2B: Complete Documents (For the Editors) Perform TEIA2b TEI A4: Public Current Documents Perform TEIA4 TEI A5: Public Documents Perform TEIa5 While the program is working, it will ask you to answer the question, "What is the number of the document you are making?" You will type in the document number (e.g. TEIA4, TEIA5) over a pre-defined filename, and leave the "Script A" (filetype, filemode) intact. After the macro has performed all of its operations, it will tell you that a file called "TEIA2 Script A" or "TEIA4 Script A" (or whatever number you have assigned it) has been saved. When the program is through, exit without saving the file. 4.2 Creating and printing the Script file. On TEISCOM, the following driver files exist: TEIA0DRI SCRIPT, TEIA2ADR SCRIPT, TEIA2BDR SCRIPT, TEIA4DRI SCRIPT, and TEIA5DRI SCRIPT. By giving the proper "Makedoc" command, you can produce a Script97 or Postscript (or Memo) version of the document list which you created from the Watfile -- e.g. Makedoc TEIA4Dri Memo. Generally, you should delete all files (other than DOCS WATFILE and the Script driver file) you used to create the document list after you have received the printed output. Because of the frequent changes to the document list, each request for a list should require the entire process above. Draft October 5, 1993 (13:52:05)
