(9:00-9:10) Call to order; introductions 2. (9:10-9:30) Opening remarks by Chair: Review of the Committee's task during the first phase of its work (through March 1990) 3. (9:30-10:30) General discussion of the Committee's task 4. (10:30-12:30; 14:00-16:00) Determination of subcommittees and setting of short-range goals for each (i.e., goals to be achieved by the time of our next meeting in Washington at the end of December). At the moment, only one subcommittee is definitely "in place": the Dictionary Encoding Committee, chaired by Bob Amsler. The "Revised Workplan" also calls for the setting up of subommittees in the areas of phonology, morphology and syntax. In addition, we may wish to set up subcommittees for the survey of existing markup schemes, and for dealing with other topics, such as metrics and stylistics. Note: We will break for lunch between 12:30 and 14:00, in the middle of this agenda item. 5. (16:00-17:00) Setting a time-table for the work of the Committee and its various subcommittees between now and our meeting in Washington; also setting a definite time and date for that meeting. For those who are staying overnight in Oxford, we will make plans for dinner after the meeting. Informal discussions can also continue on Friday among those who will still be around. I intend to post at least a precis of my "opening remarks" before I leave Tucson next Friday. If you have comments or suggestions regarding this agenda, please send them (preferably to the list server, so that everyone can consider them) as soon as possible. I will be attending the Dictionaries in the Electronic Age conference and the meeting that Don Walker has organized on the Wednesday immediately preceding our meeting date.
