         The Advisory Board expresses its approval of

         *   the goals  of the Text  Encoding Initiative  as expressed in  TEI document
             PCP1:  "The Preparation of Text Encoding Guidelines"

         *   the organisational structure of the  Text Encoding Initiative as expressed
             in TEI document EDP2:  "Charges to the Working Committees"

         *   the design goals  as expressed in TEI document  EDP1:   "Design Principles
             for Text Encoding Guidelines" (section 4).

         It takes  cognisance of  the draft work  plans so  far submitted  by committee
         heads,  with the  understanding that these will be revised  in accordance with
         experience and with the suggestions made by the Board.
